I have a 1972 F100 with only 45,700 actual miles. The motor runs smooth, but sometimes it will begin to skip and eventually stall. I have to loosen the set bolt and slightly turn the distibutor, then the truck will restart and run fine. Does anyone have any ideas? Your help would be greatly appreciated. I think the low voltage return path is through the body of the distributor to the engine block and back to the negative of the battery. Maybe sometimes you don't have good contact between the dist. and the block. If you cleaned off the hold-down clamp and the lip where it contacts the dist. it might help.
