Was driving through lunch hour traffic and had a 74 year old lady turn across traffic crossing my lane. When she came between the stopped cars i was going 30 to 40 mph and was only i'm guessing 20 to 25 feet from her. Thankfully I caught their car on the front corner only and it just turned them around going back the direction they were coming from. The impact was not as great as i would have thought but being blinded by the airbag briefly I ran off the road and took down a restaurant sign on a 4" pipe .
The pipe did more damage to the expy than the car did. I had the only injury, I got a baseball size bruse on my forearm from the airbag. The Expy survived the crash just like I thought it would with a lot less damage than the car, The front of the buick was twisted like twisting a washcloth
My damage is mostly bumper down.
Mapman, glad to know you are ok! sorry about the expy.. Hope it can be fixed as good as new.. I guess that is the good part about these darn SUVs we survive and they survive to drive another day!
Keep us posted.
Talked to my bodyshop owner today, he said when adjuster pulled up value on my 98 and it was higher that he thought it would be with 194,000 miles on it. So it appears they will fix it instead of totaling it. I'm glad, i sure hated to give up my expy.
You will probably feel differently after you get it back. If the damage was so great that it came near the value of the vehicle, it will never be the same.

If it's repaired properly, the vehicle should not feel any different. This is how my old truck looked after a wreck
it was repaired at a dealer (almost $9k, IMO not worth repairing but the insurance co. decides that) and I drove it for 1 yr after that with no problems.

Whenever they total your car, you are screwed. You never get what the car is really worth, and could buy a box of donuts for what they offer. Good thing, and glad you were not injured worse. The air bags did their job.
I hate exploding devices in may Expd. wish I could remove It.
If you had your seat belt on then you could have missed the post. I think that air bags do more harm than good. Im one of those short people and I hear that my arms could be broken becuse I have to sit so close.
Triton my damage was only minor compaired to yours. My hood was not even touched. My damage was lower grill, down. In fact it did not even reach the radiator.

Glad to see that you are ok and that they are fixing your truck.
Actually thats not all the time true. You can actually sometimes make money off of the insurance company when they total out a car. Its happend to me a few times in the short period that I have been driving.
Last year, I bought a white 00 EB 4x4 for 14k, it got totaled after six months - head-on with a 90's Chevy S10. It happened on a curve and I managed to slammed on my brakes. I got some bruises but otherwise okay. Fortunately, the other party who happened to wander on my side of the road were all relatively okay, a little more hurt than I was but didn't suffer any major injury. The damage was nowhere near the one pictured above but the insurance company decided to total it. The air-bag didn't even come out, but apparently, the motor moved and the frame got twisted. They paid me a little short of 15k, and the almost 1k difference was about good enough to cover my add-ons/maintenance after I got the truck like new plugs, 4 new shocks, coolant drain, brake fluid drain, fuel filter, synth oil change, & other minor stuff, + all my DIY labor.
In a short time, I got hooked on XP, and felt that it saved me from potential major injury. I luckily chanced upon a 99 White XLT 4x4 w/ leather & LLS, got it for 10k, and It even has a lower mileage than my totaled EB, (and love the LLS).
I'm a happy camper, and very confident riding my XP This is one solid vehicle.

There is no evidence that air bags do more harm than good. It is a myth. I work in crash safety, I know.
