Hey guys, got an 05 XLT 5.4 Scab 3.73 LS leaking brake fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir. I looked under the hood and noticed drops of brake fluid all over the reservoir and puddling around the outer rim. I also noticed my brake pedal feels very spongy and tends to loose pressure while at a stop, in other words it seems like the brake pedal depresses while sitting there. It seems to go to the floor with little resistance. Sometimes when stopping the brake pedal seems fine, other times it scares the crap out of me because it goes down further before the brakes catch. WTF gives? I have 520miles on this thing. I am going to take it in monday to check out the brakes and recharge the AC. You guys have any info I need to convince the dealer to do their job?? Thanks.
Ronnie I haven't had any brake problems out of my screw but I would recomend that you take your truck to Alan Vigil Ford they are in morrow off of MT ZION blvd. They are the dealership that I've bought my last 4 vehicles from and they have always treated me very well. I've dealt with Legacy ford in Mcdonough and was not at all thrilled with the way I was treated
Thanks for the advice, I stopped by there today and they seemed really helpful. He told be to bring it back Monday so I can drop it off for them to take a look at it. I also asked them about aftermarket exhaust, and he said it would not void my extended warranty, so that was the only hold up on that. Id still like to take a look see at your exhaust setup whenever you get a chance. Later
Ronnie

I just had this done to my truck, noticed the same thing on the master cylinder. I noticed little droplets of brake fluid after hard braking. The dealer actually got mad at me for telling him where to look for the problem. Mine was worse on really hot days, fine on cooler day. Turns out the cap was bad, with a new one on order. The ridiculous thing is that they have to put the new cap on, not me, due to warranty issues.
Side note, thanks for looking into that exhaust question. That was nagging me but i didn't want to ask the service guy about it, being that he already gave me an attitude for suggesting what the problem was.

Well, I took the truck to the dealer and they said the reservoir was overfilled from the factory which caused the cap to leak. Whatever they say. Your service guys sound like dicks, could you take it to another dealer? Whatever happened to the customer is always right?
This is the closest dealer to me and they have one of the "best" service departments, although i don't know what the criteria is for that. I've been wondering alot lately about the "customer is always right" thing. It doesn't exist anywhere in business anymore, kinda scary.
I had actually removed quite a bit of fluid from the master cylinder myself when i first noticed the cap leaking, figured that would solve the problem. But i guess the excess fluid "blew" the seal under the cap, so it won't completely pressurize the master cylinder now. The new one came in today, should have it put on on saturday, if they won't let me do it myself.
Well I looked under the hood today at the reservoir after a full day of driving, and there was still one small drop of brake fluid on the master cyl. Its still slightly overfilled also, sounds like this dealership is about worthless.
On a side note, how many times would you say your AC compressor kicks in/cyles every minute. I can hear mine click about once every 10seconds, is this normal or am I just paranoid?
Hey guys, simple solution to getting great service and cooperation out of any dealership.... wait until the warranty has expired and appraoch the counter with checkbook in hand. They will worship you!!!!!!!!!!!! And they will find an immediate solution to any issue you may have.
TBS,
what's your point? is it a gripe? than wrong forum.
Silver,
I haven't noticed how often my compressor cycles on. I only use it when it's really hot, and then it's on Max A/C. but with the radio on it's not something i've really paid attention to. Ditto on the warranty expiration, but i'd rather have a warranty with pissy service guys than to pay out of pocket for stuff that shouldn't be braking.

kinda sad, but true!
If the dealer treats you like manure under warranty, it is unlikely they will treat you better when you are out. They get paid for warranty work and Ford will not complain as long as the paperwork is filled out properly; a paying customer is more of a potential pain than a warranty customer.
Bruce you are correct to a point but why is it so darn hard to get some dealers to acknowledge a problem? Yes they do get paid for them, that's what is so hard to understand. I know they get alot of people that just whine about nothing but why do they sometimes have such a hard time finding your problem.
I had a 1989 f-250 with about 20k miles on it and a rear axle seal had started to leak. the dealer tried to tell me that it was because of my 35" tires!!!!
What's up with that?
I know this is not the place but dealers are my least favorite people to deal with.
I feel much better now....
silver, good luck getting your truck fixed
