learn from *MY* mistakes
************************************************** **********************************************
i don't own any of the chilton's or ford bronco manuals, so maybe i could have avoided these mistakes, but i thought i would pass along the info none the less
my 1996 eddie bauer bronco did not come with the signal flash door mirrors, but i was able to track down a driver's side... thought it would be cool to add them if i could ever find them...
today the rig went into the stero installation shop to have upgraded speakers put in the stock speaker locations... i had pre arranged with the store manager to come in and switch out the original mirror for the signal flash mirror after the installation tech. had the door panel removed...
after checking with the tech. i unscrewed the two door bolts and then loosened the 3/16" (guessing) bolt that anchors the mirror to inside the door.. proceeded to switch out the mirrors, installing the driver's side signal flash, and running the wires and plug in through the door... (ripping away the factory installed black plastic on the door) everything is set and nice and snug and i go to plug in the signal flash mirror ---
PROBLEM
signal mirror has a larger plug that what my door has... a very different plug all together... which means if i want to attempt to install the signal flash mirror i'll have to
1. find the correct plug
2. pay someone to have the new plug rewired and installed
if the dam mirrors are SO hard to find, that tells me that the plug might be hard to find as well (guessing)
and having someone rewire it sound pretty spendy !!!
my second mistake / leason learned has to do with the speakers behind the front seats
after looking over the installers webpage and being told --- "SIDE PANELS 6x8 4 depth" i purchased some very nice infinity kappa 6x9 speakers only to have the installation tech tell me that only 5x7s will go back there.....
so if anyone is going to upgrade their speakers i would suggest buying 5x7s for the side panel speakers...
DO NOT let this happen to you !!!
*sigh*

And as for the mirror. I would cut the plug off the mirror and solder wires on to extend the leads... Then I would strip small sections of the matching wires in the harness and solder the mirror leads to them. That way you can keep the stock plug, so if you go back to the stock mirror you can just desolder the new mirror's wires, cover the stripped area, and plug the old mirror in. The only tricky part would be tracking down the turn signal wire(s)...
