Just discovered....

Ok...lots to type so here it goes. Went out this morning to look at the 99 F250 PSD and thought I would check the air filter. I have had the truck for a little over a year. It has the original stock air filter box that says INTERCOOLER on the top of it. It seems to seal tight because you can not move it when it is latched. The gauge on the filter is still in the new position (as it has not moved) since the new air filter was put on. I got the truck in May of 04 and never changed the filter until Feb of 05 (first diesel and was ignornat). When I changed that first filter the gauge had indeed moved toward time to replace it. Now today July of 05 I took the top off of the air filter box and removed the filter itself. It was about as it was the last time I looked in with 2 small dead fly looking bugs.

For some reason I decided to look down the tube and see my turbo wheel which looked fine (very clean, sharp, "undusted'). What caught my eye was that at the end closest to the airfilter (farthest from the turb) there was some type of little groove around that tube where a bracket type thing is on the outside that holds it in place that was shinny. Further looking showed a small amount of what appeared to be oil (very small) lying down their and around that area was "black soot" type stuff that you could get to smear on your finger if you wipped it around down their. But below this everythign looked shinny and clean.

So is this normal since I have done so badly replacing my air filter that one time that I sucked oil back up? Would it have been their before and I not have noticed it when I changed it the first time because I wasn't looking? Do I have a major problem on my hands? Will my truck die tomorrow?

155,000 miles as of today. Stock except for two replaced injectors, oil/filter change at every 4,000 to 4,300 miles. Uses virtually no oil at all between chagnes.

Gettin ready for vacation so please give me good news.

Sounds like you are showing signs of PMS (pre-mod syndrome). This can become very expensive and painful if not treated properly.

I'm no doctor but I recommend you check your bank account and marital strength before posting any more on this site. If you choose to post, you could advance into more serious stages of the diesease and contract full blown Powerstroke Mod Syndrome! The disease will consume every spare thought and dollar you have. Consider this friendly advice and a warning!

Do the CCV mod and the 6637 air filter and it will remain white glove clean once you've washed it out. Bear in mind that all that stuff is also going into your engine. The intercooler, tubes, y-pipe, all are glazed with the stuff that you are finding pre-turbo.

So would I be wrong in remvoing all of the tubes from air filter to turbo and cleaning them with "mean grean or some degresser" and cleaning them up then reinstalling?

You can go ahead and clean it up for now but as long as the factory CCV is venting into your intake, you'll continue to get oil into your intake tubes, turbo and CAC.

Yes it's normal.
As a precautionary measure, I would remove the intake boot from air box and the CCV connection and inspect the boot all the way around. Some owners have reported small splits, cracks, etc. in the boot as well.
