Using wheel adapters

Has anyone used any type of wheel adapters. I am thinking of buying a set of wheels and tires off of a 2004 F150 that I can get for about $300, but I don't want to compromise my family's safety.

Glenn, wheel adapters are fine. In fact there are a few productions cars that came with an adapter. I'm assuming your using the adapters because of the difference in lug pattern. Two things you need to aware of. Check the offset on the 2004 F150 rims. The wheel may either be in too far and rub or they may be sticking out too far because of offset. The other things is with some wheel adapters your current lugs may be too short, you'll have to purchase longer lugs and press them in. I had that problem on the rear end. The lugs are shorter than the lugs on the front for some reason. Good luck.

in nz adaptors are only allowed to be up to 25mm thick and must fit the centre snugly and be fixxed to the drum with locating screws to allow it to comply with lvv standards

Being in the Custom wheel business...I would never recomend wheel adapters but thats just me. I just personally think its a bad idea..Also keep in mind that the offset of that 04Ford wheel will be much more promounced with wheel adapters. The minimum thickness of a wheel adapter will near double the offset spec. They are pretty thick.

My 56 F100 came with wheel adapters on it when I bought it. I had a bit of a nasty surprise on taking the front offside wheel off to find that the adapter was completely split and cracked around one of the studs.

It looks like someone had over tightened the wheel nut to the point of pulling the stud through the spacer, making it break out from the rear.

I am sure that this isnt normal, and was as a consequence of ill fitting/assembly. But cant help but think that you wouldn't be able to do this with stock hubs.
