thanks texaco, i stand corrected. not all large fords had diesels. a friend did not start getting diesels in his big rigs till the late 80's when they dropped the 534 from the lineup. for 5 years he complained about fuel milage on the diesels compaired to the gas jobs till i convinced him to go with a larger motor.
seems a 250 hp 534 with a 10 speed trans got 7 mpg, but a 250 cummins with a 10 speed only got 5 mpg. when he went to the 300 it jumped to 8 mpg, and now with the 500 hp cummins, he is getting over 10 mpg.
