Cool F150 missfire diagnostic

Anyone know where i can go to have a missfire diagnosed. I live in England West of London. My Truck is an F 150 4.6 Triton 1997

The most common cause of misfires that I've seen on here for these modular engines with the Coil on plugs are the COP's themselves going bad. As far as checking which one is bad, there have been many posts on this site on how to do it. I don't know for sure how to do it, the Ford dealer found the bad one for me.

check your mass airflow meter, adirty one will cause rought idling. Use a good electrical cleaner but make sure you do not damage the elements, very expensive part to replace.

Thanks to both of you for spending the time to reply. When i find the mass airflow meter I will clean it (no handbook or manual yet). When I changed the spark plugs I noticed that the front 2 plugs were oil soaked. Maybe they are the ones with defective coils. The next problem is going to find someone who supplies the spare parts in england. Any Idears?

The 97 4.6L has 2 coil packs and not the failure prone COPs (Coil On Plug). Any OBD-II scanner will work. Pretty much all vehicles made from 1996-on use the same scanner.

Thanks for the correction LX, I figured all of the modular engines had the COP's, when did they start on this engine?

the 4.6L got them in 99 along with the PI heads I believe.
