i have found a nice F250. it is 1976 with 460 with what the seller says is a ford carb. i expected holley but he said no.
what would it be and what problems could it cause.
auto, 2wd, 354? ratio,...
thanks,
mike
From 1976 to 1979 Ford used the Motorcraft 4350 carb. It was a metering rod carb much like the Q-jet, Thermoquad and Carter/Edelbrock carbs, as you can seen it didn't last long.
I personally dont like the metering rod style carbs, i havent had much luck with them, and several of my friends have had a bad run with them as well...Ive liked Holley carbs since high school, granted there are the POS OEM Holleys out there that dont have adjustable floats and just dont work worth a crap, but a good aftermarket Holley carb will make your engine run smooth and give you the power the motor really has in it!! as for 2 or 4 barrels, if your truck has a 4 bbl then go with a 4 bbl, if it has a 2 bbl (unlikely on a 460) then stick with a 2 bbl...i have a 780cfm 4 bbl vacuum secondary on my 460 and i love it, i also have a 500cfm 2 bbl on my 351m, both Holley of course, and i never have to mess with either one...

I agree with SwOkcOffRoader. Mainly metering rod carbs are why Holley carbs came into exsistance. Besides they favor emissions and not Hi-performance and are harder to tune. Holleys are built on the "KISS" principle, you know "Keep It Simple Stupid".
