Question Code P 1132

P1132
Lack Of Upstream HO2S Switch, Sensor Indicates Rich, Bank No. 1

I have this code on my 1995 Ranger, where would I start to troubleshoot this problem? Any help would be appreciated. I can check sensors with DVM.

Thanks

Welcome to FTE!!!

I would start by looking at the plugs, you may have an injector thats hanging open a little.

I'm sure the other users will have some more ideas.

Welcome to FTE Mark.

I agree with Ken, sounds like a misbehaving fuel injector leaking, or maybe dirty.

Do you have any other codes, if so list ALL that you have.

You could try listening to each injector on bank one, with one end of a broom handle placed on each injector, the other end to your ear, to determine if you can hear any difference in each injectors sound.

Then begin by testing or pulling that injector for inspection if it sounds different from the others.

Or you could pull & read the spark plug from that cylinder, to see if it is showing signs of running rich with black sooty deposits on it. If so, suspect the fuel injector.

Just some ideas for consideration.

I did get a P0125, coolant temp not high enough to enter closed loop operation. I will check the plugs and thermostat in the AM. Thanks for the info.

I would check into the p0125 first, if your not going into closed loop that will make it run rich.

Ok good feedback on the other code P0125, (Insufficient coolant temperature for closed loop fuel control).

As Ken has pointed out, this can keep the air/fuel mixture overly rich, so it needs to be put right first.

Sounds like the computers engine coolant temperature sensor is not telling the truth about the actual coolant temperature, or the thermostat is stuck open.

Has your instrument panel engine coolant temperature gauge been reading lower than usual????

If so suspect a stuck open thermostat.

If not, suspect the computers engine coolant temperature sensor.

Pull it's electrical connector loose & measure it's resistance to ground.

It should be about 75 ohms engine fully cold & about 10 ohms fully warmed up.

It's a seperate unit from the one that dirves the instrument panel temp guage & will have two or three wires going to it's electical connector.

The one for the instrument panel only has one wire going to it.

Is this a 4 banger or six cyl engine were talking about???

Let us know what you find.

I checked the plugs and they all looked good, I changed the o2 sensor between the manifold and catalistic converter and the P1132 code cleared up. A day later the P0125 code came up again and I changed the temp sensor. This cleared the p0125 code. Its been 2weeks and no codes. Looks like I got off easy. Thanks for all your help, I have told all my ford friends about this site.

When I got a P0125 on my 4.0L it was due to a bad T-stat. Apparantly it was sticking open, even during cold winter morning starts.

While I was in there changing the T-stat, I also changed the ECT.
