460 vibration
I've got a 79 f-150 with a 460. I'm getting a vibration @ around 1000 - 1500 rpm. One machinist told me it may be the flex plate. I dont know the year of the motor. The valve cover has 1976 on it but it may not be the original from the block. Does any one know how or where to find the year so I can find what type of flex plate should have been used ?

It very well could be the wrong flexplate. The only way I know to find out if the engine is internal or external balanced is by the casting number on the crankshaft. An internal balanced crank would have the numbers 2YA,2YAB,2YABC and the external balanced cranks # is 3Y. Also, check the spacer behind the balancer. If it has a counterweight on it, it is for an external balanced engine. So far as I know, the crank number is the only way to know for sure of the flexplate needed.
