You can find the code on a sticker under the door latch on the drivers side I have a h9 which is a 3.55 ratio limited slip 9.75 rearend. Post your code. I think I have them listed somewhere & I'll look it up for you.
at the top of the page in the articles tab you will find the a article about codes, when you look up the code on the door go there and it will give you the answer to all the codes. nifty
it says i have a 3.55 non limited slip. i also noticed that they have a 3.55 limited slip axle. is the only difference between these the limited slip clutch packs? if so can you mount clutch packs on the non limited slip axle?
If it came with a 5.4L, it has a 9.75" rearend. If it has a 4.2L V6 or a 4.6L v8, then it has a 8.8" rearend. All use the 8.8" in the front if 4x4.
Jimmy... of all the people, I'd figured I'd never had heard that out of you... the rear end info is completely not true.
The 9.75s and 8.8s were both found behind 5.4s, about the only sure way to tell what rear you have is to get under the truck and look at the metal tag hanging from the rear diff, although they are different in shape and may bve idnetified through that.
Ignore the top line, it gives part numbers and such, it's that bottom line that'll give you the info that you need.
355 88 XXXX
or
355 975 XXXX
It reads the ratio (the 3 is usually under the bolt head), and then the ring gear size, then a julian build date code iirc.
The front will match the rear and must be changed simultaneously if you plan on using the 4x anytime soon. The front is a reverse cut 8.8, so you can't swap in a cheap set of 8.8 gears, you have to get the right cut to them.
thank you for clearing that up i was pretty shure of what I had but wasn't 100%. Also I diddn't know the front was reverse cut (that would have been embarassing at the mechanics shop). Thanks again guys, thats proof positive that FTE is truly first and best!!!!
