We went though the wanting a talking exotic bird bit a few years back. We found the AGP is expensive ( 1200 bucks around here) they live a long time and should be willed to a trusted person. They require a lot of attention and need to bond to a person, if not they can get nuerotic and start pulling out their own feathers. The thing that stopped us from buying a bird was the realization that there would never be another totally quiet moment in the house again , after getting a parrot.
We wanted a parrot after seeing that one sing opera on tv one night, man that was something to hear,

a great bird that loves to talk. i miss mine. one big thing. don't use foul words around them. they can and do remember on one i hear it. had a big blue macaw also that we had gotten off a ocean going tug. talked in spanish. all bad words
My mother had one. Don't know much about them personally. After my mom passed away it took awhile to get used to hearing her talking in the other room. Sounded just like my mom. They can immitate a voice quite well.
Ive had mine for 12 yrs now. They are great birds. but as with any pet they need alot of attention. He pretty much bonded just with me, which is normal for them to bond with one person. they need to be handled constantly for them to become used to people. You cant just stick them in a cage and ignore them.
my only real complaint is, the fact that he never shuts up.LOL he starts as soon as the sun comes up. He imitates every sound in the house and outside. Talks up a storm. He's great, carries on 10 min long conversation with himself.
Only dilema now , is who to will him to. since we will most likely outlive me and my wife. 90 yrs is the normal lifespan for an AG.
I worked with a guy once that bought a parrot and paid a lot of money for him. He come in one day with a big sore on his bottom lip where that bird bit him. He had trained it to kiss and he guessed this one time it didn't want too. He also said he wanted to choke the living heck out of the bird but thought about what he paid for it.
I never knew parrots lived so long until I read a year or so ago that the parrot Winston Churchill had during WW2 was still alive.
Yeah, and do you know what Churchill taught the bird to say, and it still says to this day? Check it out here (warning: the link has edited (censored) bad words on it--nothing in plain language but you can guess what it says)
