Well I know a couple guys running the older style of Rhoads Lifter's in drag race only applications without any issue's, But i'am not sure how they would hold up under street use? I dont know anyone running them on the street?
Buddy had a set in his 429 on the street. Drove it everywhere. 67 Fairlane, went 12.0's. They were kinda noisy, kinda like a solid, but got quieter as you rev it up(since they stop bleeding down then). They last okay.
I just don't see the use? Guess I never had power brakes, or cared to have my radical cam sound mild?
I had put them in my rebuilt 390 and hated the noise they made! sounded like the valves weren't adjusted properly but they were. I guess that's what you get when you buy a varible duration lifter. I finally went to Crane's anti-pump up lifters.

well Larry, my thoughts are they are for street/strip cars with bigger cams. Something to help with lower rpm power and driveability.
I ran a set of them in a Buick 455 that I had some time ago.
They DO work, just as advertised, BUT they are VERY noisy. I got tired of people telling me that I was low on oil or something, so I would just call them solid lifters and glare at them for being stupid. They are louder than solids tho.....
I was able to run a cam that had 294 intake, 302 exh, with a 560 lift, and still run an auto, without burning yer eyes from raw fuel. Idle was ok, had just enough vac for brakes, and when they pump up, HOLD ON!!
Cap'n, yeah, I have set in one of mine. And they work swell. It is neat to listen to the engines very raspy idle with silent lifters (cold oil ) get progressively smoother while the lifters get louder and louder, as the 15-50 thins oil out as the engine warms. Mine are in a 390 with a crane '801 cam. But these guys aren't kidding about the noise, it may drive you nuts after awhile. DF
