Engine click/clack
Ok, my 2001 Tribute (Escape) V-6 starts & runs quietly..no unusal noises. However, once it warms up it has a tick which sounds just like a lifter problem. Had my local guru check it & he says his stethescope hearings say its down further in the engine..not a lifter! So, what would sound fine when cold but tick when hot? Anyone had similar problems??

There's a post on escape-central about a guy with an '04 Tribute with the same sounding problem. Others said that they've had engines replaced because of it, but those were very low mileage cases.
