IFS bushings

I have a question about the IFS on my 93. I've had it realigned about three times in the last year. It is fine for a while, then i start to notice the tires doing their tow out thing again. I keep eating up tires. When i replaced the pivot bushings, i noticed that the hole on the crossmember was not round, but rather oval shaped, like the bolt has been moving up and down in the hole. It is the same on the front bracket. I was wondering if this is a problem and how to fix it. The bolts were also pretty worn out, where do i get some new bolts for the pivot bushings?

Your best bet would be at a junk yard to find the bolts you need, I doubt the dealer would carry them anymore. You can weld a washer on the crossmember with the same bolt diameter and that will solve the elongated hole problem. Make sure you have the correct torque specs for the axle pivot to prevent anymore unwanted movement. Hope this helps.

Had to weld those thicker black looking heavy duty fender washer looking washers to the out side of the brackets and replaced thebolts with grade 8 regular bolts with washers and nylock nuts. your bushings and sleeves are probly shoot too. What happen is the bolts are metric, head and bolt/threads and the new bushings are U S size and allows everything to slop around. Most of your toe in specs for for about 1/16 to 1/8 negative. I'll bet that its to much play because using the stock bolts. Also any of the holes in the brackets might have to be touched up with a file or drill because the U S bolts are just that much bigger. Its going to take a front take apart to change the pivot bushing. Note, if I misread your post and all your front is still stock, I'll still bet your bushing sleeves are messed up to. Still all repairs would apply. If you dont have a welder you'll have to replace the brackets, that would be alot easier.

I got my new bolts at a hardware store Loews to be exact- had to order them $2.00 a piece I think I used 1/2 " or it may have been 7/16" Been a long time- I may even have a few extra- i'll check when I get a spare moment. I have the problem of the hole in the arm where piviot bushing goes is oval somewhat on the pass side and i just torqued the hell out of it at 250ftlbs and seem to be good for a while but since has worked loose a little. I plan on a SAS so i'm not fixing it. But if you need a stock bracket for the driverside arm i have one that I may be able to part with cheap.-Bob
