When you find the answer to the posting attachments question can you enlighten me also. As I look at the little box in the lower left of the screen that is title Posting Rules this is what it says;
Posting Rules
You may post new threads
You may post replies
You may not post attachments
You may edit your posts
Thanks

To insert an image, the text in your post has to look like this:

The URL has to start with http:// for the FTE server to recognize it. The actual text that goes where the letters URL are above indicates precisely where on the Internet your picture is located.
OK, so now you are saying, how do I get the text that tells the server exactly where my picture is stored? Well, there are several ways to do it, but here is one fairly straightforward way for images in your FTE gallery.
1. Go to your gallery.
2. In your gallery, click on the number 2 below the image you want to include in your post. This will bring up the full size version of the picture on your screen.
3. RIGHT-click anywhere on the picture. A menu will pop up that has several options. Choose the Properties option.
4. Another window will now pop up showing a bunch of properties for the image - including the URL we want. Triple-click on the URL to select the whole thing, or, highlight the whole URL using the normal way you'd highlight any text with your mouse. Press CTRL-C to copy the URL text.
5. Click Cancel (or OK) to close the image properties box.
6. Exit your gallery.
7. Start your post in the normal way (post reply button when you are in a thread, or new topic button from the forum page).
8. Click on the Insert Image button (the mountains).
9. Remember the URL you copied from your gallery using CTRL-C? Well, now press CTRL-V to paste that URL text into the pop-up dialog box.
10. Click OK to exit the pop-up box and you're done.
Print out the instructions above and give it a try. If it works, do it about a dozen times until you can remember it without having to follow the instructions.
By the way, you can use the same method for any image on the Internet. As long as you can see the image full-size (not a little thumbnail version), you can right-click on it to get it's properties, copy the URL as described above, and paste it into the Insert Image dialog box. I find that opening a second browser window allows me to work with image URL's in one while I'm doing my post in the second one.

When someone views the image he does not see the image in your message - his computer is told to go to this location and display the image shown there. I know, it is the same picture - it is just stored on a different server.
You can store the image on any server on the Internet, but storing it on the FTE server is better as the reader is less apt to get lost when his computer looks for the image. You can not store it on your computer because it is not an server connected to the Internet.
And, of course, if you store it in your gallery and later delete the image, anyone who reads the message will not be able to see the image.
Best I can tell, you need to be a Club FTE member to have access to the attachments feature. The attachments feature allows you to directly upload images from your computer to a special storage area, and then automatically insert a link to those images in your post. It is faster and easier than uploading to your gallery, getting a link, and inserting the link in your post. If you can spring for the $16 for a Club FTE membership, you get access to a bunch of additional features including attachments. I've found it well worth the money - kind of like a shop manual for your truck. The membership fee generates revenue for FTE that allows for better servers, more features, etc. so we can keep using the forums.
For non-Club-FTE-members, you can use the instructions I posted earlier to put the image in your gallery, get a copy of the link to the image, and then insert the image in your post.
If anyone needs any additional help with this, please e-mail me (I prefer e-mail to the private messaging service on FTE). I'll do my best to talk you through the process. I know the instructions look intimidating, but a number of users have mastered it in just a couple tries.
Thanks for your deligent services.
I suppose I should bite the bullet and become a full fledged member. This site has given so much to me in the way of advice, tips, and inspiration that It seems only fitting that I return a little something.
Thanks again
Bobby
The attachment feature you get with the new Club FTE membership allocates a fixed amount of space for your attachments. You can manage them as you see fit. It is not a web page hosting service per se, but rather a chunk of server space where you can upload images and such and then link to them in posts.
