More rearend stuff.
I have an open nine on my F100. It has a lot of miles and 2.75s. One thing I'd like to do at least it to convert to actual TWO wheel drive and possibly swap gears for better acceleration. I spotted a local ad for a Dana 60 rearend. I understand the 44's are for the front ends on 4X's. Since I'm considering a rearend rebuild in the next year, would it make sense to pick this thing up if I can get it for cheap? I understand that I'd have to swap brakes and springs - those are near shot on my rig too. I have to admit, I know very little when it comes to Danas or rearends at that matter. I'm under the impression the Dana 60 is a full floating setup that allows for towing / hauling more weight than a nine -is there any drawback to the Dana 60 vs. a nine? Heavier? Is there a better Dana unit to keep an eye out for that maybe more desirable? I appreciate any constuctive input or information. Anyone else performed a similar swap on a F100 2WD?
OK, I did some reading. The shop manual reads that the nines were used on 100s and 150s. The 60 on the 250s and 350s. Then there's the 70 and many combinations thereof. What would you expect to pay for a 60? They don't seem rare...I'm starting to think maybe a nine out of the junkyard to be easier to deal with.
>rebuilt :P
Have you seen a Proctologist? -hehe

I would keep the 9". Find a pig at a junkyard with 3.0 or 3.25 gears. You will need an overdrive to use anything else. Install a limited slip unit or just find an axle with one already installed:-)

NO

It is heavier and (almost) all of them require 8 lug wheels.

Nope.

Keep thinking that way.
