what experience have you guys had with them? How much does body parts (Front clip) go for and what kinda fuel mileage does the little 4 Cyl. get? I might get one to replace my '89 (Sig. truck) so I can restore her. And are they really considered a sports car? Insuance wants to say they are.
Thanks guys.
Camrys are very dependable. Its a Toyota, no need to say any more.
Fuel milage should be in the 30 mpg range on the highway.
One thing they are not is a sports car. With the 4-cylinder they are actually kind of slow. Dont let your insurance agent BS you into paying more under the claim of it being a sportscar.

They might be high due to theft rates, but you can check that out as they publish that all the time. No way it's a "sports car". A Camry trademark is the fact that it's plain jane boring and reliable. Note plain jane boring (much as a tan Taurus or off white Sable would be) makes it invisible when scooting down the highway.....
"UJC." (universal Japanese car). Camry or Accord is about as good as it gets in mid-sized family sedans. They're both pretty much indestructable, unless someone rear-ends one with a F150 like my kid just did.
I got it. It'll be home monday or around there. How much are front clips for them? Somebody tried telling me that '96 was the only year for its engine. Is this true? I can't belive the resale value for it is in the $3,000 range.....Hard to belive for something 9 years old.
I take it the car needs a front clip? Resale is frightening for those things- a cherry '96 with good miles on it will bring a lot more than $3K up here.
For the engine part, they can last forever because one of my cars is 1994 Camry, but its 3.0L V6. It currently have around 125,000 miles, I bought it about 2 years ago with 100,000 miles for $5,300 and its worth every penny.
But they have other "problems". For example, they suck in car accidents, my mom was in an accident last year and there was over $5,000 damage and Dodge Van, which hit her, was hardly damaged at all. A/C recently stopped working and cassette player didn't work at all when I bought it. But for the engine part, in those 2 years there were no problems at all.
Its home.
It needs Passenger side marker light,Driver side headlight,Passanger side fender, and a hood. (Body wise)
The power anternna is trash. Half is broke off and it dont work.
But other than that,Paint is good,Body is good. Its a nice get around town car. And at almost 30 MPG with prices now,it beats 13 MPG that my old ford is getting....Too bad I can only afford one to be insured.
But on a good note,Now I can park her and restore my old '89 and clean it up.
I don't know if I'm doing a good thing or bad thing....Keepin an import on the road while taking a ford off. But I'm cleaning her up to last longer and beating the toyota....Its a toss up.
When you see how much more expensive it is for parts and how much harder those parts are to find (not to mention how bad Toyota's customer service is), the Toyota wont seem so great.
Trust me, Ive been there. I used to own Toyotas, but I got tired of the cost of parts, the fact that most parts had to be ordered and the fact that I have NEVER, EVER left a Toyota dealer feeling satisfied in the way I was treated. Thats why Im now a Ford owner. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to fix, better customer service and Im proud of my F-150. I liked the 2 4Runners that I owned but they didnt have the same coolness or macho factor that my F-150 has. Im yet to meet a woman who hasnt loved my truck, wish I could say the same about the Toyotas...
That Camry is still a great car. Id rack up the miles on that thing, because they run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run and run...

That aint no lie. I feel like a "Kid" in that camry compared to my '89.
Hell,I'm so used to a big truck,I bottomed the camry out driving it. (Not thinking and used to a truck)
By the shifter it has a button named "ECT" and when I push it,a light on the dash comes one with "PWR" illuminated. Whats that for/mean?
Thanks.
different shift pattern biased for power instead of mileage. re: parts- don't forget aftermarket, especially for body stuff. We put the F150 back together for less than I was getting quotes out of wrecking yeards.
The ECT changes the shift points. It makes the tranny shift at a higher rpm. One of my 4Runners had that, and I thought it was a sort-of "towing" mode, like what GM now had on the Silverados.
Cruise, now all you need is a fart can exhaust and a bunch of "Type-R" stickers and you will really be cool! (NOT!!!) LOL

Thanks, toyota's are a mess. You gotta pull the headlight assembly and marker assembly to get the 3 screws out to pull out the headlight (bulb)....I got the lights off today.....There a mess....Hoods buckled, fender is trash... I got some work ahead of me,lol.
The day I put "Type-R" stickers on it,is the day hell freezes over,Lol.
But seriously,I'm hoping I can rebuild it from junkyard parts for under $250.

LOL...tell me about it. I had a '91 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 V6. To get the oil filter off you had to jack it up and take off the front driver's side tire, remove the splash guard and then squeeze your arm through the front suspension to get at the filter.
It seems like the Japanese automakers like to cram as much stuff into as small a place as possible. The domestics are starting to get like that, but they aint got nothing on Honda and Toyota!
