Now that I have my heating, fuel and starting problems fixed I want to go do some hiking and camping in Wyoming......But first, I figured a switch out of the drivetrain oils would do some good.....what is the proper weight oil for a np435 tranny and np205 t-fer case.....as well as my DANA 44 and 60 axles? Should I remove the diff. covers to drain the oil and replace the gasket while there?
So, that is 80/90w in all?? Just pump it out with the drill pump (Diffs.) or use the drain plug (Tranny/T-fer case) and then refill until it is at the bottom edge of the fill hole, right?
I'm just going by what Ford recommended when they built the thing, but it probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference, although one might run quieter than the other in the cold weather. Or go to a synthetic in everything so you don't have to buy more than one type of lube oil. FWIW
I checked my buddies owner manual, It's a 1978 Ford F150 Ranger Owner Manual which came from the factory in the glove box. It also recommends 85W90 gear oil for the manual transmission and transfer case. The transfer case is a New Process 205 (NP205).
