6.0 Mileage

'05 F350, SB,FWD, PSD, 373 rearend, 10k miles. Bone stock with exception of tonneau cover by snugtop. I took a trip from Southern California to Colorado. I drove up the 15 to the 70 over to Denver then down to Colorado Springs. About 1100 miles one way. Wife, 3 kids, luggage for 2 weeks, soccer equipment, ice chests, chairs, etc. I drove 72-73 mph in cruise most of the way. There seems to be a sweet spot right in there, @2000 RPM for fuel efficiency. Anyways I was pretty excited with the hand calculated mileage of almost 18mpg on the way up and almost 19 MPG on the way back. (17.8 and 18.7) Not too bad for a 4 ton brick going down the road.

Around town I average 13-15, so I was pleasently suprised to see the mileage going down the open road.

I had a DVD system installed and 3 wireless headphones, kept my kids pretty mello, worth every penny.

S/C or C/C??

Thats pretty decent numbers.. The best 'so far' for me (05 C/C, S/B 4x4) has been 17+ or- with some similar weight/load.. But going Up/Down HWY 5 in CA (it seems endless) 65-70 is pretty hard to maintain.. OK REALLY hard.. It 'loves' to cruise at 80.. And if your not up to speed, your an obstacle!!

Sounds like it was a good trip.............

best I have gotten 1 time is 17.4 rest will average 15.5-15.9 that is the only discouraging part of mine. Especially when the guy sitting behind me is getting 21-23 on highway trips in his 03'..............yeah I also drive 48 miles one way to the office so 96 miles roundtrip all interstate a day and only getting what I am

Best I have seen in mine is 19.5 mpg. That was with mostly e-way at 70 mph and some two lane at 60 mph. With my to and from work (90% e-way and the rest city) I consistanly get 17.3 mpg. Mine is a XLT SC 4x4 short box 16500 miles. I am not complaining at all, hopefully I can break that 20 mpg one day. All calculations done by hand to top of filler neck.

Thumbs up

Dafuz, pretty much identical numbers with my 04 350 CC LB Lariat 4x4. 70 mph gets me the best mpg's, but you have to hold that truck back, it just wants to go. @ 80 mph the mileage drops off considerably. On a recent 2000 mile trip I figured I saved about $75.00 dropping the cruise control from 80 to 70. We were in no hurry to get there so the 10 mph didn't really matter as far as the time factor.

So after reading these 6.0 psd mileage threads, I can gather that I should keep it under 70 in order to get better mileage. My best since stock has been 14 mpg. These are all hand calculated and my average speed is 75-80 mph. I added 325/65/20 and mileage didn't change much to notice but I just wonder what else can I do. For me, every fill up takes about 5 minutes after the first pump handle cut off as I nurse till totally full. I have a 200 PSD crew cab and would like to get better milage without having to use a tuner or get a newflash.

I have a crew cab. DVD for the kids on the ceiling and 3 sets of wireless headphones, thank God. Made the trip easier for all. I want to eventually install scmt, 35's and DR 41/2" lift. Im a little reluctant though, it pulls everything and running just perfect now...
