help!! looking for info on 53 Ford
D -> OHV 6 Cylinder-215 cid
3 -> 1953
A -> Atlanta assembly plant
17969 -> 17969th unit built in '53
A -> Raven Black color code
23G -> I think this is part of the production code. Built on the 23rd day of July. Not sure what the rest of the production code means. There is also a tranny code and rear axle ratio on there somewhere.
Hope this helps!

SERIAL#* F10D3A-17969
COLOR A 23 G
PRODUCTION CODE 936 K
THANKS WATSONM
The info decodes thusly:
F10 = F-100 Series truck
D = 215 CID six cylinder engine
3 = Model year in decade (1953)
A = Atlanta assembly plant
17969 = Consecutive unit number (starts at 10001). Yours was the 7969th truck built that year.
That color code looks odd. It should be either a single letter or two letters. Are you sure some of the other symbols don't belong to the transmission or axle ratio locations on the tag?
A = Color Black
G = Color Seafoam Green
The production code also looks a little odd. The K is likely October - meaning your truck was built in October.
Double check the code information - sometimes it's easy to mistake one round letter or number for another. Also double check the placement of the information to be sure it doesn't fall under a different section of the rating plate.
If you want more info, check the reference section of Earl's World in my signature block below.
I type too slowly for Kevin (speedy Gonzales).
