Driveways the wider the better , I like straight blade plows but thats my choice.
Lotsa guys get rid of their V blades..Just make sure you get a tripp edge blade.
Go to plowsite.com for some help also.
Two things bad about the V blade. They are heavy is the worst thing, and I would not want to plow a strange lot with them since the edge is all that trips.
What happens when you run into a 9" curb?
All that extra weight on the front and the extra snow weight you can trap with the blade will cost you extra in truck maintence.
Then the dollar thing is,
If you are getting paid by the hour get a straight blade or you have to charge a higher rate for the V blade.
If you are getting paid by the lot, get the V blade.
I have a Sno-Way with the lexan mole board. Nothing sticks to it. I can keep on rolling the heavy wet stuff that gets stuck on a steel plow.

I get paid by the lot and by the inch......if you were getting paid by the hour you woulnt be going as fast as per the job makes sence
the extra weight is'nt a problem i built a air ride for my front and rear suspension
I always had straight blades but a guy I plow with tried the western V and he got rid of it he said it was just to heavy and he didn't see any advantage in the lots over the straight blade.
I always had meyers blades then I got a fisher minute mount 8ft and I really liked it I think it's one of the better setups but heavy also it truely went on in a few minutes with no help and once I got over the blade not falling over I think the fisher design trip edge is better and easier to use and stack keep in mind this is just my opinion.
I say get a fisher straight plow
Good luck using whatever you get

I think it depends greatly on where you are going to plow.
Me I have a Western V blade, 8.5 foot.
Yeah its heavy... although I think they make one wider, which would be worse. So Im not sure what these guys are comparing when they say "heavy" the 8 or the one larger.
I also take it off and put back on several times during the winter, so its not on my truck all winter long.
This is my first blade so I cant really compare it to anything. got it in 98 just after I bought my 98 truck. So Ive plowed with it for 7 years.
Never had a problem, with the truck or the plow (except once I somehow poked a hole in one of the angling rams hydro hose and lost angle but it would still go up and down).
The truck I bought with a snow plow prep pkg and also put on bigger bumpstops.
However...I dont plow commercially, and im the only one that plows with it. So There isnt 5 different guys using this setup. I use it to plow between bldgs (all the snow has to go out either end of the drive) which the scoop position works great for.
No curbs to worry about
If I had to do it again, I probably would get another Vblade.
I will agree that it is heavy but like i said i havent had anything else to compare it to.
The best plow for what you are plowing is the Blizzard. It has wings built right in the plow that can retract with your plow controller. It has the Bucket blade design that will move 3 times the snow a V blade will. Go to WWW.BlizzardPlows.COM. This plow will cut time off your jobs and make you more money. Have a great day Big George

The Blizzard 810 weighs a LOT. If you have a CC Diesel it's gonna be hard on your truck even with plow prep. One of the guys I plow with has it on a v10 CC and it drops the nose bigtime. It is fast though. Really nice plow.
Personally I run a 8'6" Boss straight blade and I love it.

Exactly what I was going to say. Get the Blizzard 810. Excellent plow and WELL worth the money!
Blizzard 8' steel = 950 pounds, but can expand to 10 foot.
Sno-way 9'1" V poly = 815 pounds
Sno-way 9'1" V steel = 838 pounds
Sno-way straight 8' poly = 568 pounds
Sno-way straight 8' steel = 612 pounds
Meyers does not list the weight of their plows. but I know they are a bunch lighter than my Sno-way at 568. It has hydraulic down pressure that cleans the packed snow a Meyers will not touch. And I can backdrag the snow away from garage doors at a tire shop I do that has a tight lot.
Since that Blizzard is almost twice as heavy as mine, I guess it backdrags well also. But it must be hard on the ball joints having that much weight hanging out front.
What is a ball park figure for the 810, there are no dealers in WV.
