HI, new to this forum. I am trying to get input, experience in trying the Ford Racing Mass Air Conversion Kit #M9000T50. I have 1993 f-150 5.0L 5sp. manual.
Installed new motor, put all stock stuff back on. I did however put Jegs cat-back 3" exhaust, and Flowtech shorty headers, and K&N air filter. Engine runs little rough, but does start good and run, and did basic tune up stuff (plugs, wires, cap and rotor. When driving like after 15min or so and exit off to back roads, excellaration is poor, like entire motor is not firing smooth. I scanned the motor running and off, w/ AutoXray scanner, read good and indicated no codes. Could this be from needing the Mass Air conversion kit?
Speed density does not allow for mods, but slight exhaust and air filter would do it? Any reply would be appreiciated.
Any change in the cam or heads? If the motor is close to stock it shouldn't be the problem. Maybe fuel pump going bad (should be 35-40psi). How's temp and oil pressure? Is there a big change in any reading when the power starts to go out? Does the exhaust start smelling rich or maybe lean? Yeah lean exhaust smells and will burn your eyes as bad as rich exhaust. Not sure why but my car does it when the fuel filter gets clogged.
I think most people do the MAF conv. to change to a bigger cam and heads. Also can help throttle response and milage. Most SD systems run a little rich from the factory so they can take a small change in air intake.
Thanks, Spaznaut. I have not done anything to the new motor, all stock and everything hooked up to it. Only Cat-back and K&N fitler element. I had the fuel pump changed in 1997 or so, @ 70,000 mi. I will check fuel pressure when it happens, and look at exhaust condition. I also put new replacement coil on last week for assurance, thinking when engine warms up, and coil increases resistance possibly, but not the problem. The engine temp and oil pressure have always been fine, never a problem, and do not notice anything bad with this problem either. At least I know to keep deducing things more, and put-off the conversion kit. Thanks. DAJ
Hi CJJEEPER85, thanks. what year mustangs can I get parts from? and I would need to know exactly what to find, including the adaptor harness for SD to MAF. Sounds like you have been through this and wouldnt mind asking you some more stuff in the future. I will look into seeing if can use what I have now, and find problem first.

The main things you will need from the mustang is the ecm and the MAF sensor, any 89-93 5.0 mustang will do. You will also need a y-pipe that is on the intake of the trucks that came from the factory with MAF (you can usually get these from a dealer but they can some times be found in the junkyard). You don't need an adapter harness to do the swap, you will have to swap a few pins on the plug to the ecm and add the wires for the injectors and the MAF sensor. It just sounds like more than it is, I had written down what pins have to be swaped and where the wires that have to be added go, but while doing my MAF conversion i got oil on the paper and it ate a few holes in it. If you would like i can go through and make another list of what has to changed and what has to be added and email you a copy.
Also, if your intrested i have a mustang A9P ecm, send me a pm
Basically, instead of buying an adapter harness, you would be making your own. You will want to look for mustang MAF meters and computers from '89-'93.
