Lowering and 18" wheels

I have a 79 F-150 with a 460 4v. I want to lower it and mount 18" wheels. can this be done? has anyone already done this?

I'm sure it can be done, but they look better lifted.

starweb I to have been wanting to do the same thing to my 79 f150 for a while now, you will get alot of ribbing here (this site) about lowering a truck i guess they just dont understand lowering a truck for performance reasons, me i like to corner fast and dont like the body roll i get from my truck. I know a roll bar will help but i want both! lowered and roll bar i want sport car handling out of my truck if im going to put in a 350-400 hp motor in her.Anyhow there are companys out there that offer lowering springs or kits to lower your truck . You will have to measure your bolt pattern for your wheels and the backspacing and talk to some wheel retailers and they should be able to help find some rims to suit your needs, good luck with your quest and post your results and findings , some will be interested.

I'd say go for it, I don't have any helpful hints for you, but, who cares what others think....be original. I wish I would've gone down w/mine, going up is a pain w/o 4wd.

Lowering and 18" wheels

I have to agree that they look better lifted than lowered but then, it's all a matter of preference. I've seen some that look good both ways. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't drive it lowered for fear of doing to it what I did to my dad's car but...that's beside the point.

Thanx!

I plan to do the same thing. I plan to use 17's because they're cheaper and still allow for enough sidewall to give good traction off the line.

I'm not a "truck person", so I HAVE to lower it. I want it as low as possible without clearance problems. My reasons are cosmetic and drag racing related.

I think a raised 2wd truck is pretty goofy.

I'll have "before" pics within a couple weeks, and the "after" pics will take a while... this is a long-term project.

I lowered the back just enough to level my 79 f-100. mine is a long bed. I don't think it would good slamed. After 19 years, I still love it.

you can get drop blocks and lowering kits from various companies out there. look around, its not too hard to find.

also you can put air bags and lower it with air. i was acually thinking about air ride, but due to the price involved in something like that im thinking drop blocks or a lowering kit
