I have a leak coming from the power steering reservoir. It is coming from the line that connects to the upper part on the reservoir. When I grab the line, it can just twist around in the fitting. I have tried tightening this fitting but the line is still free twisting around inside it. What should I do?
Wipe the thing dry and look for the leak. If it is at the hose fitting you could try taking the hose off, cleaning everything real good, and wrapping some teflon tape on the threads. If the leak is from the base of the pump fitting I would think that a factory seal has failed and you need to replace the whole thing. If the pump nipple has a place to put a wrench on make sure you do that and hold it in place while you break the hose loose or tighten one up, otherwise you could damage the housing seal.
Thanks for the suggestions, I checked this out some more today. The leak is coming from right where the metal line itself connects into the fitting. It is not seeping from around the threads of the fitting or the base fitting on the reservoir. I removed the fitting and there was some kind of seal inside the fitting that was too torn up to recognize. We had a o-ring that fit and we tried that but it still leaks. I need to get this truck fixed asap. Can someone please tell me what type of seal if any is supposed to be there?
buy new hose if possible. i can not remember which one, but one line even when new, seems loose. it is made that way. i had instructions that came with hose that this is the way it should be.
We are talking about the pressure hose here just to verify things. The metal line going into the fitting does seem loose so it can rotate around, so im glad to find out that is normal. I thought maybe the hose assy. was damaged at first b/c it is leaking from were the line is free to rotate in the fitting, but it looks as if this is not the case. I have searched lots and can only find threads relating to leaks at the base fitting on the reservoir and elsewhere in the system. Hopefully someone can tell me if there is a seal that goes between the pressure hose and the stationary fitting on the reservoir.
Quicklook2 has already confirmed that the hose is supposed to rotate and spin. I need to find out if there is any type of seal that goes in the fitting that is attached on the reservoir. The fitting that is on the hose is leaking at the point where it rotates.
