I have an 03 f250 6.0. two months ago the water light was flickering on and off and then went steady yellow. Went to dealer, said it was a sensor that has gone bad. It was replaced. Just recently the same thing happened. Just came back from dealer again today. Fuel filters were replaced, sensor was working fine. Service tech states it could be a fuel module that needs to be replaced. The diesel mech is backed up for two weeks, states truck will run fine. The question is, is this a component that I can change my self and will the light go off. Also, is this part located on the top of the engine somewhere and easy to get at. $500 seems like an awful lot for something I could possibly do cheaper and faster.
There is a fuel filter on top of the engine and a fuel pump in the tank. I don't know of any other place for a fuel sensor. I'll do some checking and let you know what I find.
driver side frame rail, right behind the front door. Its the brass plug with a hex head in it. almost impossible to remove the brass plug once it starts to corrode. let the dealer install one under the 100,000 diesel warranty, 100 deductible.
If the fuel module is covered under the 100k warranty I would let them change it out. They should change the fuel sensor also if it's on the module. It's worth the 100 bucks if it's covered.
Thanks, I have already had the sensor replaced once by an out of town dealer. Home town dealer said sensor was fine but the module needs to be replaced. Water light is still on with new fuel filters. There diesel mech is two weeks backlogged. Just wondering if dealer is yanking my chain. Should try another dealer or do it myself.
Service tech stated approx $500 for the module to be replaced. Thought that was to pricey. I would try to replace myself but if light still does not go out, what then. Catch 22.
