I'm looking for advice regarding my '90 2.9l 5-speed Ranger 2WD. I've got the tranny out (clutch was slipping) and am trying to determine where all the black oil sludge came from - all inside the bell housing. Rear seal looks good. Could it be the back end of the oil pan gasket? Is there a seal in the front of the tranny behind the hydraulic slave that could be leaking gear oil into the clutch housing? I've never noticed oil on the ground under the truck...
