Air Filter getting wet

About 4 months ago, driving in a rain storm that lasted approximately 300 miles, at times it was hard rain but mostly average for the southeast I-10. When took off after I stopped to refuel about 30 miles from home the air filter light came on, the truck ( '04 PSD 6.0L C/C Lariat FX4) was running fine but I suspected the filter being wet, why I suspected maybe just gut or the trip itself. The next day I check everything and found the filter to be soaked. I replace with new stock filter and later replace the entire filtration with a K&N system. Has any one ever experience this before? Apology for ther long thread.

Long Post? A very short sentence for me?

We have seen this condition posted here before but, very rare. Not sure of a fix, if any, exists.

The K & N filter probably won't help under the same circumstances / conditions. May even actually allow moister into the system IMO. If it's similar to the K & N's I used to buy for my gassers anyway. Seems to me that it's strategy is geared more to particulate matter filtration.

The stock Donaldson designed filter, it seems, is about the best overall for this engine.

There is a fix and it was developed to keep snow from clogging the filter while plowing but it also helps to keep out water.

install the Snow Deflector Kit part# 4C3Z-19E671-AA

From: Fort. Lauderdale FL,
I am wondering about my home made Zooded (spelling) mod.. I figured my way getting me to the same place the Zooded did. I just had a hole saw cut a 2.5in hole in the material right in front of the intake to the filter. This works so that the air goes stright into the intake.. I am worried about water though i didnt think about it at the time.. I am thinking i am going to have to put something infront of the hole to help block water... Any think what was done is going to cause any problems.. Its behind the grill but there is a good clear shot from the hole right out the grill no obstructions... thanks for any input

Thanks Doc for the info, can this be used with the K&N that I have installed or will I need to reinstall the stock system?

I think that most people install these themselves therefore I have not personally installed one as of yet. I mention this because I really can't answer your question, not knowing what YOUR K&N housing looks like doesn't help. I do know that I don't like seeing K&N's in our trucks because I have seen too many with dirt lining the intake ducts. My thinking is that the kit is simply some sort of a shield. Perhaps someone who has seen it can jump in.
