I do not like the idea of welding propane tanks. If anyone does try it, please purge all air out then take valve out, then fill tank with water. This is the only safe way to do it. After welding and before putting valve back in I would let it totally dry and use some type of rust preventative in it.

I heard a rumor, a local weld shop actually welds GASOLINE tanks. First they empty the tank. Wash it out, then places junkes of DRY ice inside. A few minutes later there's only CO2 GAS inside......Weld away!

Anyone have any success with this?

I still wouldnt want to try.......

I am in the process of moving my air compressor off the floor and i was thinking of adding a few old barbeque tanks for additional air storage. I was thinking of mounting them upside down on the flanges so the only entance/exit point for air straight down. I figure this would eliminate most of the moisture problems. I have seen air tanks fail from welding. The welding changes the metalurgy (sp) and cretes a week spot, so i would not recommend welding on an air tank. If you need more outlets put a tee on the outlet.
