got a F150 4x4 302 auto, couple of months ago replaced the water pump (leaking) thermostat and top hose, power flushed at the shop.last couple of days overflow tank overflowed shortly after stopping the engine (45 min city drive) topped up the fluid, tonight came home and the same thing again ,gurgling then the geyser from the overflow tank used the wifes candy thermometer in the overflow tank as it was rising temp was 175 celcius ,
I did notice the tank was empty last week and filled it up to the cold level mark
do I have something more than trapped air in the system? refild it tonight with the engine running, heater on full, cap off topping up when the level dropped untill it was steady
Maybe whatever you flushed out clogged your radiator or failed your thermostat, From that you can guess what to do like rod your radiator and replace your tstat.
When the engine is cold and the thermostat is closed, are there bubbles in your radiator? thermostats have a small hole to allow some water to flow through them.... if your cooling system is becoming pressurized by a piston, you will notice theses bubbles. you may have a cracked head, bad head gasket, or possibly a cracked block. You probably won't notice a miss, just bubbles and water consumption.
thanks folks,
rad was replaced 2 years past about 30,000 ml ,(as was the reman motor). I'm beginning to suspect the heater core,
hottest day of the year so far, drove home about 1 hr with the a/c on, fluid level seems to be stable did lots of steep hills loaded during the day .
side bar question, what should the oil consumption be if any? tail pipe is clean ,looks like new.
