Verify that your carburator is pumping gas. This is done by taking off the air cleaner and pumping the accelerator rod. Visually inspect that the gas is being squirted by the accelerator pump.
Verify that your battery is in good condition. Run a battery load test on battery.
also check to see if your getting spark from your coil to your distributor and see if you getting spark to your plugs if not yo umight need to replace some ignition parts.
brand new duralast battery, brand new edelbrock carb, brand new msd coil. have not checked timing, getting spark to all plugs. how would i go about checking the timing
I have a 79 F250 that does the same thing. It is as if there is some type of leak in the bowl of the carb that allows fuel to leak down. Usually takes several minutes of cranking to get pressure back up. It is not fuel pump. Once fuel is back at carb, and you pump it will fire right off.
I am very interested to see what everyone can say to this.
From experience here, check the throttle linkange, disconnect the throttle linkage from the gas pedal to the carb, check to make sure that the linkage on the carb is completely forward, as if it was at idle. Pump the linkage at the carb and make sure the gas squirts out at the acellerator pump. If it does, then make sure the linkage to the gas pedal is properly adjusted to allow the carb to completely close. Had the same problem with my truck, turned out the linkage was too short and wouldn't allow the pump shot at start up. Try as I might truck wouldn't start, readjusted the linkage and it started right up.
