Exhaust

Does anyone make the old school side pipes for our trucks?

If so where and how much?

Thanks

I've seen them listed in Jeg's and Summit.
The summit part # PTE-H1050 for 50" louvered cover type side pipe. Patriot is the brand name. Dynomax also lists a version of same design.

Hooker used to make the solid pipe type(my preference). I'd bet they still do. They will be pricey though.

I'd thought about this for my '67, but just don't want to spend the money. I always like sidepipes.....even though alot of people think they are hokey on anything but an old Vette or Cobra!

I like the rumble of sidepipes. Deep throaty roar! I thought of getting just the long inserts and install them like mufflers. Most times though the cost of the insert is near most of the sidepipe cost!! So I have left my stock late model mustang mufflers on it(they were FREE).

Got flowmasters on 69 F100 (428) and my blown galaxie (390)...so they make enough noise for everything!! LOL!

I like the sound of the headers. Now thats a roar for your ears.

I figured old school would look cool on this project

would i just get like a right angle bend over to the side pipes and should be good to go from there?

would i need something larger than the 2 inch diameter???

They sell "side pipe kits'" that give the S curve to help hook up to side pipes. Might work..might not on a truck(with that stupid crossmember in the way? ).

I think most of the kits I saw have 2" inlets.

ok well i think i will be sticking with the Patriot Side Exhaust. That seems to be in more of my price range.

I dont even know if i am going to like these or not. ( i have never heard them on a car or truck) (but i do like that deep loud tone)

If not i think that would look cool you just dont see them everyday.

I think i can make my own bends in the pipe over to the side pipe its self.
I just dont want the side pipe to be chrome and the pipe going to the side pipe to be steal and it rust and look stupid.

Would the chrome for the side pipe curve under the truck?

Ya, the inlet and outlets are chrome pieces. Figuring that they want it to look nice.

The muffler is basically a glasspack that is long. So it's got that deep rumble...with the longer the muffler, the better it sounds.

Hey bshackleford711
I've been trying to figure out a way to keep dual exhaust on my '69 F250. I have the rear tank in the bed and couldn't see any way to route them well. The PO put a muffler under the driver seat and it looks stupid, like a big coffee can hanging underneath. I completely over-looked side pipes. I'm just a rookie here to learn. Would the 70" side pipes attach right to my stock manifolds, or would I need the connecting kit? Is that cross member in the way? The Patriot series seems like a good price for a cool exhaust.

you would need a connectiong kit. I do know. I have long tube headers on my 390 and i could go over the big crossmember and then just a 90 degree bend to the pipes.

I am not sure of the length yet. I have not measured or ordered my pipes yet maybe next week. I have a 22 gal mustang tank under the bed of my truck so not to many options for pipes. Plus i think that they would look cool on a truck. You just dont see them anymore.

When i order my pipes i will post and ley you know what i got. Then i wil just mount them up and i will let you know how they fit.

I dont have a camera so maybe i can talk the wife into......... well i can try......

For a number of years I had stacks on my 70 F100. First they were just 2" pipe painted white(real poor years! ), then I stepped up to used side pipes(were chrome, but rusted enough I painted them flat black), then I finally bought NEW 4" chrome truck stacks and made my own muffer insert. I need to see if I can find a picture somewhere of it way back then...LOL!!

Now, I have my real diesel truck(mack) with real chrome twin stacks! It took 20yrs...but I finally got it

Well, it's my avatar. That's the basic nose shot. I don't have any other pictures posted anywhere. The Bigmacktruck webpage deleted all pictures when they went to new forum. I need to get some new shots up.

On my pickup stacks...I ran them up thru the front corners and clamped them to the top of bed rail. Worked great...and if you have rear slider, you can really listen to it bark!!
