I've got a 79 F150 automatic with a tilt column. I've been searching all over this site to find out how to get the "gear selector" lights to work. They haven't worked since I got it a couple years ago. The only reason I know there are lights there is because they flickered on and off a couple times when I first got it, since then, nothing. I'm talking about the the that says whether you're in Park or Reverse or Drive and all the other gears. I've looked all over for the place where the bulb would be but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know how to fix it?!?
All you have to do it remove the plastic trim piece on the column.
Then Reach up with a pair of needle-nose pliers and grab the bulb holder that the blue/red wire (don't pull on the wire until you won't mind re-soldering it)runs to.
It's a snap and takes about 5 minutes
Also, sorry it isn't a 194 bulb.
It is a mini-styled #89 bulb like for a flashlight.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Nov-02 AT 00:45 AM (EST)]Really? My 77 has a twist in socket just like in the back of the instrument panel that screws in from behind the steering wheel.
I guess they changed them in 78/79 Sorry about that

Anybody got any ideas?
If i knew what the bulb looked liked, that would even help.
It's the same as your dash lghts and also your side marker lights, steering wheel comes off and bulb is in a socket that twists into the turn signl assembly. You can get the bulb at any auto parts store I used a LED in mine.
I wish it was that easy, mine isn't on the turn signal switch, it on the shifter housing, and it looks like the only way to get the bulb out is through the back.
