My parents have a 2002 E150 5.4 L V8. They've been having problems with it throwing computer codes. The first time, the code read "Bank 1 Lean", so they took it to a shop, that ran a diagnostic, and came up with a dirty fuel filter. They replaced that, and then the van threw the same code again within a 100 miles, so they took it back to the same shop, who then replaced the fuel pump, stating fuel pressure down to 30 lbs. Then the van threw a code after 219 miles, and this code was "bank 1 or 2 injectors lean".
The original fuel filter was cut apart, and the one that was replaced by the shop were cut apart, and were not dirty.
The shrink tube on the electrical connections inside the pump looked like they had been overheated, and burnt through in spots.
The van has a miss upon start up (rough idling). Drove from eastern ohio to Indiana 60-70 mph, van did not overheat, and got great gas mileage! Exhaust pipes are clean inside.
If anyone has any idea what could be wrong with this van, any information would be helpful at this point, as we're all pretty much stumped, including our local Ford dealership.
had same problem with one at work about 6 months ago, ended putting a mass air flow sensor in it and that took care of the problem, hope that helps and good luck.
try to clean the intake air system with air intake spray cleaner,....auto zone carrys it ,get in there really good and scrub it out with a long type of tool this may help the idle and stalling issue.
