Im installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge on my f150 and am having trouble locating the stock sensor. I was told it was near the oil filter.I located a black braided sleeve running in that direction but am not sure if that leads to the sensor. Am I looking in the right place? Thanks.
pipe wrench or you can buy a socket at napa for it. i think you have to ground the wire or computer gets false reading. i used to use a dual mech. and stock setup using a 't' but i have not gotten one in a long time.
The computer does not see that reading, no need to ground the wire. You can just leave it disconnected. I don't suggest using a T and trying to use both sending units. The oil pressure sending units are pretty big, space is limited and since it's not necessary to have the stock one functioning, you can just leave it.
I like to run both with a T and here's why. (I think I read this somewhere on the forum)
If I ever lose oil pressure, I want every light and gauge possible to move and illuminate so I have a better chance of seeing it. I'm more likely to notice quicker if I have two gauges and a light rather than just one gauge.

i agree.
or you can convert your idiot gauge to a real pressure gauge.
if i put mech gauge in i will use a t because i hate dead gauges in the dash.
Quicklook was right; without the wire grounded, the check engine light comes on. I then grounded it to the chassis and the light remains off and the stock gauge still reads in the normal range instead of flatlined. Thanks for all the help guys.

HA! let me mark my calendar, 'i was right about something today!'
It wasn't the Check Engine light, it was the "Engine" light, which only comes on when the truck overheats or loses oil pressure. It has nothing to do with the engine computer whatsoever; it's a module located in the instrument cluster.
