You were absolutely right about the light coming on, but I didn't want people to get confused about which light

I don't even have an "engine" light.....i do on the 89....but not on the 95. No check engine lights on my 95 come on due to oil pressure.

I have autometer gauges on my a-pillar....and keep a close eye on it. I too don't like dead gauges in the dash, which is why my the water temp is still hooked up, but the oil pressure was one I didn't want to deal with T-ing because of the tight area and no downside to leaving unhooked.
