I dropped my 71 4x4 off to the body shop 3 moths ago, and it still isn't done. I'm going to kill this guy! I know from other people who have used this body shop that the owner is slow, but three months?? And I'm really over a barrel because the truck is in pieces, bed off the frame, and glass removed and interior gutted. I did check out his past work and it is awesome, that's why I went with him.
I know that I'm not paying him our agreed price, due to rental car costs. My truck just gets pushed back for insurance jobs and quick bucks.
Oh, ya. Been there.......how about 6 months!!! It was a full strip/paint job on my '64 Galaxie. Was not in a hurry, but after a while I kept buggin him to get it done BEFORE summer was over...LOL!!
Motor work is the same boat. Either done quick when you don't need it...or MONTHS when you're in a hurry.

Must be a problem with the Galaxies, my 64 took over a year.
LOL!!! Sure looks great...but I got to hate waiting for it. It took like almost 3 months for him to actually start on it. That is what bugged me the most. Once he started, it went along pretty quick. It could have had more blocking time put on it....but for a street car/hot rod it is more than adequate for black. It's only money....how much did I want to throw at it??? LOL!
Whoa, 6 months, a year?!?! I guess I can't complain too loud. But don't tell my wife, she is fuming, she hates sharing a car and sees that truck as a thorn in her side.

Yup, 2 1/2 to start, and only after I said I was taking it to a different shop if he didn't start working on it!!
I'm having the whole body and interior done, so it is a lot of work. I think I'll stop by today and snap some digital pics of it for my gallery. It's going to be RED!!
I guess I got lucky. I put my truck in the paint shop two weeks ago. I just went by there on Monday and they are almost done. They also pulled everything off the frame and had some body work to do. The paint job looks awesome so far. He said he should have it back to me in about one more week. All I can say is that this shop is good, and they also do complete restorations on our style trucks. If anyone is interested in contacting him, let me know. He is located in north Georgia.
I cant wait for slow body shops,i do all of my own work.I built a paint booth in my barn so if the painting is not getting done i can only blame myself.

I sent my 1974 Beetle in to a shop and got it back in two months....unfortuneately, the guy gave it to his son to learn on....all of my doors hinges were bent out of whack from him standing on them to sand...the trim will never line up again....and now, about 5 years out, the paint is peeling and cracking away everywhere....not to mention it lost its "new paint" lustre about a year or so after the paint job......Don't rush the shop or you will pay for it in more than just monitary ways!!!!! (Oh...did i mention that paint in the trunk is STILL Tacky and sticks to everything!
Right on Jowilker! Love it when someone asks who did the shiny paint job on my '72, and I get to say "I did it in my 2 car garage"! It's not "perfect", but then again I've looked at $2000 paint jobs on vehicles that weren't perfect either, or the orange peel look on the brand new trucks out of the factory.(My paint supplies were under $200). One of these days I will get my gallery pix updated.

No kidding. Once in a while I'll pull up next to a brand new rig at a stop light and just marvel at how much orange peel they let out of the factory these days. If I ordered a new car or truck and it came with that lousy of a paint job, I would seriously try to send it back. Seems like most of the culprits I see are Dodges, but Chebbies and Fords aren't immune by any means.
I painted my old '83 Tbird a couple years back, in the carport wrapped in visquine plastic. Worked out pretty well, I think it cost less than $350 with all of the materials for prep and the paint, thinner, and hardener (used PPG Delstar fleet paint). Fun project, at least, felt pretty good to have it done.
If i screw up ill have to fix it.On my off road trucks a base coat will work and who cares what it looks like. But on my buddies rigs i dont rush the job and give them somthing ther un happy with. But i also dont work on my junk wile ther rig sits in the barn.
It took me awile to learn the wright way to spray a vehicle and i only practiced on my stuff.
All i ask of my friends is to buy the paint that they want and give me the idea of what they want it to look like, but if "I mess up" it looks like Im heading to the paint store.
I updated my gallery with in process pictures of the work being done. I have been promised the truck at the end of the month. The guy is actively working on it now. I can't wait!!!
