Hello,I just signed up tonight because I came down with a major problem! I bought a one owner 1991 F-350 with a 460 and E40D Trans, so I can pull the 26' camper I bought last month. Well tonight I hooked it up for a trail run and while backing up Trans fuild poured out of it. This is probably to to the fact that the truck has sit for about two years. What should i do ?The trans shifted fine due to a recent rebuild, but after reading about the E40D is it going to be up to the task of puling this travel trailer?

Where did the fluid pour out of? How long were you driving before it poured out?
I assume the shop doing the rebuild performed the upgrades recommended by Ford to take care of known problems/weaknesses of the early E4ODs.
If the fluid poured out of the bell housing then you probably have a really bad seal that might have gotten hard from sitting too long without lubrication. If it poured out of the dipstick tube that is usually because of overheating or too much fluid.
Have you properly checked the fluid? There is a specific procedure and not following it could lead to you putting too much in.
If this happened while cold, then either you have too much fluid or a bad seal. If it happened after driving, I would suspect overheating. Overheating in reverse especially towing a trailer and especially up a small hill can over heat things pretty fast if you have already been driving it awhile.
How does it shift otherwise? Any harshness, slipping etc?
I had a quart or two pouring out of the forward end of the case because I overheated the fluid towing a trailer hard on a hot day. I am having some worrisome shifting problems both before and after the loss of fluid. My transmission will cause the drive shaft to rattle when I am not on the throttle very hard and it is about ready to shift. My 1-2, 2-3 shift points are getting rather rough, wether I am towing a load or just running the truck empty.
The fluid poured out of the bellhousing ,I had just driven it about 100 miles that day overall. The trans shifts fine and I believe you are right it was too much for it in one day. The truck sat for a few years before I purchased it .My mehcanic said he would put in all new seals for $450.00 . Someone suggest trying Lucas trans treatment but I know its leaking out too fast for that. Thanks I think I'll just take the Nissan to Florida and get a room and leave the camper behind until I can get it fixed.
