Also, a large garage/shop on ground level, of course. Native trees, shrubs, etc, NO lawn to mow! And a stream, pond, or waterfront of some kind would be nice. Well, since it's my dream home, I would be able to slide down a rope from the treehouse to my dock with ocean access for my boat!
Ahhh... dream on!
Dang, some of those tree houses are pretty awesome. I wouldnt mind having one of those for my bedroom...
I'm gonna build my dream home. best part is i'll pay cash a couple years out of medical school.
I want 4-500acres, a plantation style house(any one seen the notebook, i know you have wifes and girlfriends) one like that, but i want a huge 12ft wide porch on both floors, huge columns, thick sturdy railing, not that 2X4 crap.
I'm gonna build a 60X100 Shop with a 15ft rollup. Then i'll probally have to sit back for a while before i go spend 50K on outfitting it the way i want it. I'm splitting the cost of the shop with my brother who's going into sports medicine, and there's me the shrink.
Plus i'm gonna do some cattle so hopefull that will pay for my shop.
I'm gonna do it oneday, mark my words. I'm too determined.
Might even buy a forclosed place and get it for cheap, and fix up the plantation house the way i want it. I'm gonna be looking to spend upwords of 750K when it's done.
I'll probally start buy getting the land and start fixing up the house, then i'll probally have it the way i want it in 15 years or so after i move in. Cause i won't go into debt for it. I'll save up cash.
Anyway's that's my dream and someday it'll be mine.
I think 3 bedrooms is good... high ceilings, probably 2.5 bath, walk-in closets, large porch and a deck... must have a deck! Also, an attached 3 car garage with heat and a/c and air tools! Actually, a friend of mine has a 2 car pole barn and that's pretty nice... I suppose it depends on how much property I have. I want a decent sized fenced-in yard and some big dogs (2 is ideal). Oh, and the house should be brick, that looks nice. I kind of want one of those big, elaborate light fixtures but I've heard they're hard to clean. And leather furniture... can't forget the leather furniture. Hmmm... that just about sums it up.
As long as it was 100+ acres, I could live in a tent for all I care about a house. But three-car garage w/shop is a necessity !
I'm tired of people watching me from two yards away, idiot neighbors, etc, hence the reason for 100+ acres ... that and not having to worry about unregistered cars being illegal, or other such incorporated village crud.
But the property would have to have a running stream/small-river with enough of an elevation drop as to make it feasible to put a generator in the flow and be able to at least partially live without electric in case the supply fails
Trying to get back to the starting point.
Me and my wife was having our 3300sqft dream home being built
and then what happens 9/11 and 50000 boeing lay offs. So now
that im back, were looking into it again, just have to find the right property again. Terrorist suck alot of stuff and i wish one would suck my 44mag.
I have what i want a home i built myself and a spring fed crystal clear 3/4 acre pond 65+ acres and all in the foothills and no neighbors... Life is good.
We've all seen those extreme homes and shows like that, that show those huge homes. I've been watching this old house over the years and seen them go from do it yourself type stuff to those, you can't afford to live here, things. I know so many people (builders, pro athletes, doctors, business owners) and have seen multiple multimillion dollar homes, jokingly called tenement complexes,(think $800,000 roof) garages the size of most peoples houses, buying another lot so the gymnasium roof isn't higher then the peak of the houses roof, that I have almost gone the other direction. Smaller monolithic dome with a steel barn for the workshop and garage. When I was a kid I thought my dream home was the one I am in now, thought the neighborhood has gotten worse, I've learned that dreams change!
But after everything I have seen and done, I think my dream home is one that is everyones dream home.... A happy one!
We're living in our almost complete dream home. 3/2 small home, 40x50x18 detached garage (125 ft away from home) smack dab in the middle of 15.5 deeply wooded acres. Outside the 1 acre fenced living area is our 3/4 acre pond and about 2 acres of swamp for mud running.
Once we put a screened porch around 3 sides, my dream home will be complete.
Porch to begin construction once Hubby gets tired of working on the Early Bronco, refreshes the 2 V-6 motors that were recently given to him, going through the 4 speed tranny for the jeep and misc other stuff. So, my dream home should be complete in say 3-10 years. Hey, at least we're finally here.

'we can get a tent for the guest room'). so start in a trailer while i stock up some money and start building whatever house i want. might bring my cousin down for a while too, he's going to school for construction managment and loves doin work like that. i don't really care what i live in, as long as its decent, got a big easy chair, nice bedroom, my computer for FTE, and a pretty gal sittin next to me. but hey, the bigger the better right??
