Alright I bought my truck about 6 months ago and about a month after i bought it, it started a "whistling"sound everynow and then when id go to crank it..like the started was whistlin..so i replaced it after it quit workin on me...now this new started started doin the same thing about 2 months after replacing the new one....so i just went to replace this one and i put the new starter on and went to crank it and nothing happend...so i checked the wires and everything was good..."to my eyes"..so i left it alone until the next day and i went to crank it again and it kinda jumped like it wanted to crank so the next time i turned the key and held it there for a sec. and i heard this noise then smoke came all out from underneath and it melted one of the ground wires...I have no clue what is wrong with it or how to fix it...Can someone please give me some advice?Id really appreciate it
It sounds like the latest starter you put on was bad. You get thoses once in a while. What year and modle is the truck? Is the solenold part of the starter or is it separate? The ground wire that burned will have to be replaced. I would remove the starter and take it back to have it tested and replaced under the warrenty. just some bad luck.
Its a 97' 4x4 f-150..yea the selonoid is part of the started, thats what i figure it was just a bad started and i was going to take it back then i tried one more time and it burnt the wire so im tryin to figure out what to do from here..
as I said before the wire needs to be replaced, you just don't burn the rubber coating but the wire insid also goes bad. then put another starter on it should be ok. before installing the starter check the area where the starter goes for any problems bumps and such. try to correct it there are any defenicys.
ok,yea i had planned on buying a new wire,do you know why it would keep eating my starters like it has been?ive heard something about if you have to much power running through one of your wires it will eat em up?
no that is only it you hold the starter switch to long or if you have problem starting the vehicle and run the starter more than 15 sec at a time, then wait for 2 min for the starter to cool down. I had a 57 Jeep ****** pick up before this truck and it had a 6 volt starter 12 volt system and it never burned out.
That is why I said check for problems where the starter hooks up the engine, it the starter is not exactly right and twisted in any it will stress the starter out and wear it out.
