Check these out...ebay item 7987633055 ..... I have a set...with the washers installed they are 1/4" shorter than OEM..... I'm not sure if washers are a good idea or not.....DSC sells head bolts with washers....what do you all think....???
OEM head bolts use washers and yes they are a good idea. I'd call Dennis at DSC to see how his compare to the OEM bolts. I see he has two kinds. ARP and another brand.

The motor I took apart didn't have washers on the head bolts....I didn't think FE's used washers....
Theoretically, the washers would allow a more-accurate torque reading on the bolts...
I see the buy it now is $29, for the extra $70, get an ARP stud kit, and get the best of everything... a very reliable brand, and studs instead of bolts.
Summit racing has the ARP head stud set for $99.95, check the sponsors here first though!
BTW you guys were right on this. The FE never came from Ford with washers on the head bolts. Some rebuilders use a thin hardened washer sometimes. Most of the FE's I've had apart also used hardened washers under the head bolt so I... *** U ME ed it correct and oem. Thanks for keeping me straight on this. Hiball, pretty cool you have been working on these since 64. I was only a wee lad of 6 back then. I dug out the head bolts off the 406 and they had no washers either. Sorry about that guys. G.
