I have a 03 ex with 6.0 in it and i installed a new set of cobalt autometer gauges in it . I need to find a switchable power source for them .In other words a power source that isnt interrupted during starting, but turns on and off with the ignition. Most power sources are cut during starting. A picture of it would be nice or color code wire.
Under the steering wheel remove the access panel. Inside this access towards the right hand side you will find a wire, I believe it is Light Blue w/Red tracer. Look near the structrual framing for the wire bundle. If you have a circuit tester just cut on the ignition (do not start the engine) and probe the wire, if you have a light cut off the ignition to see if the light goes out.
If you can wait till later I'll double check mine, it is a bit hot to get inside the truck right now.
The instructions say to wire it up like that so it can zero itself before starting. Thats the only reason. Now keep in mine that the are cobalt autometer gauges and i dont know if there is a difference than other autometer gauges.
those cobalt gauges recalabrate them selves everytime you start the truck. They need a constant 12v durring startup to recalabrate. Most of the circuits in the truck shut off while cranking.
Yes that was my problem with it. But today i unbolted the fuse box under the dash and checked all the 10-12 gauge wires till i found one with power during starting. Now the world is a better place to live.
