I was just wondering how the 6.0's are holding up compared to the 7.3 diesels. I currently have a 2000 Ford Excursion with the 7.3 and I'm thinking about upgrading to a new 05' with the 6.0.
'04 6.0 - I had a couple of problems but Ford fixed them. Service is important no matter what you have. The 6.0 is a quick powerhouse and the fuel cost was the same as the new Explorer they loaned me.
'04 6.0 with 18k on it and it runs like a champ. Took care of a few service items on Ford's dime and they treated me well too. Highly recommended in my book.
No complaints here! '04 Ex 6.0, with 16,000 miles & predator. Tons of power, occasional towing up to 10,500 lbs., and never a trip to the dealer. Gotta love it!
I purchased my 6.0 Bauer Excursion in June 2003 w/ 12 miles on the clock. I just rolled it over to 62,000 miles today. It has been the most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned. Aside from routine maintenance and some minor rough idle issues that were corrected early on, I haven't had to repair anything. In my personal experience, this is one reliable vehicle.

04 EB X 4x4 15000 mi never had a surge or a rough idle or a oil leak and always great mpg. The only trip to the dealer was for a lower rad hose and the CAC tube.
My only observation between the 7.3 and the 6.0 is the power. I test drove a '02 with the 7.3 and it was sluggish in compaired to the 6.0. I know there were injector problems on initial production 6.0's this was corrected soon after introduction in '03.
I have an '05 with the 6.0 and I think it is Great! I am getting around 16-17 mpg city and 21-24 mpg hwy (going 60-65mph careful throttle). This is amazing to me. I only got around 23- 25 mpg with my minivan. This thing really gets up and moves when you get on it. I think it would outrun a new V6 mustang to 60. Or maybe it just feels like it.

See you on the boards.
Enjoy FTE …..
Does the 05/06 Excursion have coil springs in the front like the Pickups? If so the first thing you will notice after the fact that the 6.0 has much more power is that these things really ride nice now. You'll love it.
