I don't think the Excursion got anywhere near the upgrades that the superduty did. No coil springs, no 3-valve v10, I'm not even sure the interior was updated..but I could be wrong on that. I know that the Excursion is dying a tragic and undeserved death. It is a great vehicle, twice the capabilities of its nearest competitor. Just under-marketed, under-promoted, basically ignored by Ford. And they wonder why they are not getting the sales they wanted? But ask anybody that has one and they'll tell you they love it.

Still leaf sprung
On Ford's official website, under specs of Excursion, the front suspension is still leaf sprung
. Ford should have made the Ex coil...after all Super Duty and Ex come from the Kentucky Truck Plant and both are heavy duty vehicles.

The dash and steering wheel are black on the '05s.
I would love to see a commercial of a regular SUV pulling up to the pumps at a gas station and then a Excursion looking larger that life (upward camera shots and you can lightly hear the diesel) pulling up next to the regular SUV to fill up. While filling, the regular SUV guy says "man, that must cost a lot to drive that truck" and the Excursion guy says back "about the same as you". And then the next shot is inside where the kids are quietly watching the DVD and an older child reading a book and all you see if that there is a lot of room for everyone. The last shot is inside the regular SUV and it looks considerable smaller and no one is smiling, especially the guy. I get questions like this all the time so it is not far from real life and then the eliminate the BEST SUV and all around work hard and play hard vehicle ever built. I am glad I got one!
