Eclipse AVN5495
I've loaded 20 (or so) CDs. You can sort the music by genre, artist, playlist and some other sorts. I typically use the random setting both on the entire music collection and also on particular playlists. You can load CDs while listening to the radio.
CrimsnTide, I would be suprised if this unit has all the same options as the Pioneer as far as dual-zone. I can't find much info on it and haven't tried it yet. I'm still up in the air as to what rear monitor I'll use.
Were you able to get the steering wheel controls to work with your system? I Think I read on their website that they had that all worked out... I'm really interested to hear how that came out... Thanks!
There will be a software update for the AVN5495 available in late August that will allow it to control the Sirius and HD radio tuners. This unit does not have dual zone capability. You can have the navigation map displayed on the front screen, and play a DVD movie, with the video sent to the rear screen, but the audio for the movie will play through the speakers. Basically, you can have only one audio source (DVD, CD, AM/FM/Sirius) playing at a time.
While driving, you have access to the “quick access” keys. For example, there are 6 presets for destinations. If you are driving and decide you want to got to the destination on preset #3, you can do that. Anything that requires more than 2 or 3 keystrokes is disabled while driving, such as POI, address and phone searches.
The warranty is 1 year. If the unit is installed by an authorized dealer, and the unit is registered with Eclipse within 10 days, we extend the warranty to 3 years.
Thank you,
Eclipse Sales
I don't have steering wheel controls on my truck, so I don't know how well that works.
CrimsnTide, have you had any luck?
I asked specifically about the 'dual-zone" and the steering wheel controls. Respnses:
Adding the DV3101 DVD will only partially solve the problem. The audio from the DV3101 can be routed to the headphones BUT, when the main unit is switched to the VTR mode, it will look for both the audio and video. In other words, you would not be able to play any other audio through the speakers.
If this is not a purchase that you have to make immediately, since you are waiting for the new truck, I would recommend waiting a few months. We have some new models coming that address all of these issues, including the steering wheel control functionality. I expect these new units to be available in the Nov – Jan timeframe.
Thank you for choosing Eclipse!
As far as the dual-zone, I just may have to explore a seperate system just for the back seat...
Also, from their first response regarding the "quick access" or any thing more than 2-3 steps on the Nav system while "moving" will be disabled. Is that where shorting out the wire (e-brake) comes into effect???

That's about what I thought on the "dual-zone" thing. I guess eventually they'll address that. Fortunately I'm not too interested in dual-zone, we have a portable system the kid uses when we travel. Who knows, I might be selling a used 5495 in a couple of months. If I can manage it without the wife finding out about it.
You know, I've had the same experience with Eclipse. I sent several inquiries while I was waiting on the 5495 release and they always responded to every question and always within 24 hours. I don't know if that's as good as it should be, but it's sure better than most.

My wife's vehicle has built in Nav and bluetooth. Once you start moving you can't even make a phone call. I understand the need for nav safety but defeating the bluetooth system makes no sense to me at all.
In regards to the questions about being Sirius compatible; right now the unit is NOT compatible, but Eclipse should have a free upgrade by the end of the year that will make it compatible. From what Eclipse Tech suport & the Eclipse rep have said is that it will most likely be a DVD download that the dealer will be able to do, along with that and the Sirius tuner the unit will then be ready to go.
I'm not sure who wants to wait 2-3 weeks to work on a truck, but I know I don't. Anyway, I'd appreciate any help from out there, otherwise I'll have to go to my local dealer and see how much of a "handshake" $$$ might be required to read the shop copy quietly in a corner and write down notes.

We are happy you have chosen the best source for Fords!

…..See you on the boards.
EDIT: On second thought, probably doesn't matter. The color I have written down is black/gray. The dash was really easy to get apart, probably took 15 minutes start to finish to hook up the wire. If you have the speed sense radio I think the black/gray wire in the radio plug is VSS.
You may already know but there's an option on the radio to let you know if VSS is hooked up correctly.
Good Luck.

I know what you mean about Ford's 1½DIN opening, btw
I had to use a body saw to open it up top & bottom. I'm going to concentrate on getting the periphials hooked up and see how the GPS does on it's own, I mainly bought the unit for some decent sound and the backup camera anyway.
