Smaller surpintine belt

I have an 87 f-150 w/ 300ci and the a/c compressor has seized. I don't need it because I basically use it for a work truck, is there anyway to bypass that a/c compressor and put a smaller belt on?

Yes, I believe that there is. I have an 89 with the 300 and it shows 2 different routings for the belt. With and without A/C. The trick is going to be finding out how yours' is supposed to be routed. Mine has a diagram under teh hood. As for finding the belt size, your local autoparts store should be able to tell you which one you need without the a/c. If not, figure out your routing path. Then, take some heavy string tie it to one of your pulleys and follow your path. Finally, you can take the measurement of the string from starting point A to come full circle back to point A. Mine was about 93 inches I believe. This may require a couple of trips to the store but it may get you the belt that you are looking for.

If you like I can list my routing without a/c and you can see if it will work for you. Question does your's have the V-belt or the ribbed belt? Mine has the ribbed belt. Hope this helps some.
See ya.
