A/C Bypass Question/ Help!

A/C Bypass Question/ Help!

My ac compressor is going out. Can I put on a smaller belt to bypass it.

95 xlt 5.8

Well, I guess you could, if you could get all the angles worked out so everything would be driven properly without the belt rubbing something it shouldn't.

But why not just unplug the A/C clutch electrical connector, and let the existing belt just free-wheel the A/C pulley? Same as having the A/C turned off. Without clutch current, the A/C clutch won't engage, so the pulley just spins around on it's bearing, and the A/C compressor's input shaft stays still.

the pully bearings are going out. I just want to bypass it until i can fix it.thanks

belt pulley

Rainman try the bone yard (junk) for another compressor if $$$$$$ isnt available TR

You should have no problem bypassing the AC with a proper length belt.
