57-60 tailagtes!

In reference to a letter requesting more bed sheetmetal for 57-60 styleside beds that I wrote for an english project to Carpenter Industries, I have recieved a letter back today stating they are going to be "stocking tailgates for our trucks in about 6 weeks at the price of $400" so I thought I'd spread the word. -4speed

I wonder if they will be making both sizes of the tailgates due to the different bed lengths or if they are only making the tailgates for the short bed models. Either way it is still good news on either count. Lewis

Both long & short bed stylesides used the same tailgate Lewis, bed size makes no difference.
Now if they would just start reproducing all the parts needed to make a brand new bed I'd be happy!!!!

I thought the gates sizes were different for the short and long bed.

4 Speed, didn't you and I go through the exercise of measuring our gates and finding out the dimentions were different since mine is an 8' bed and your is 6'?

I measured my bed opening and 57fords opening and they were the same. I also believe there's only one part # for a 57-60 tailgate. -4speed

What about the sheetmetal next to the endgate? The body panel that has the tail lights? Mine are both rusty and battered - I would replace the panel if I could find someone who makes it!

I wrote to him about it, no mention of any because of tooling cost. No one else makes any. -4speed

Way to go FourSpeed! My tailgate is useable, but a new one sure would be preferable. Ya just can't find nuthin' for the bed of a '60 stylesides....

My58Ford, a friend of mine had a new truck stepside box made for his 55 by a local machine shop. Looked great and the cost was only $700. He had to take the old one all apart but it was worth it as the new one was so nice. Style side would be a different story.

Well I know you can buy a whole kit to make a brand new stepside bed, I think they're around $1500.00.
But like you said, stylesides are a different story.
But maybe now that they're making the tailgates, a new styleside bed may not be that far off!
