Will 35s fit?

Ive got a 78 F-150, that i put a 4" lift on it and its got 31s on it right now, looks like crap. My buddy can get me a set of 35x12.5x15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws for pretty cheap. I was just wondering if they would clear, I know it would easy in the back but im not sure about the front. My 31x12.5s rub on the passenger header (fender well exits). Im just wondering if they would fit under there. Since they are on chevy rims id have to take them off and put them on my rims to even test fit them. Dont really want to go with a body lift. Probly end up having to put some 6" springs under the front, right?

35s should fit without a problem on your truck with a 4" lift. Your back spacing on your rims might not be correct or something like that, causeing the rub against the headers.

If you have alot of weight up front causing the springs to sag(big engine, big bummper, winch ect...) then you might want to get 6" coils for the front.

I'd be looking at the tire/header interferance before I'd be buying some bigger tires for my truck.

But, that's just my opinion......

Had 33x13.50 Baja Claws on my '78 Bronco with 2" lift, no rubbing except on lock to lock turns on the radius arm. i still had room for 35s under the fenders.

I ran 35's on my 78 f-150 4x4 with a 4 inch lift and fenderwell exit headers, I don't remember them ever hitting, I never did and real off roading but it never it any other time. My tires did not really stick out past the fenders wither, were right in line with them, don't know what the backspacing was though.

Bakspacing

What MBBFord said about the backspacing being incorrect on your rims is the basic problem. This is not exclusive of the tire width (which you said is not going to change) and the potential interference of things like fender exiting headers. The problem can be solved by changing the backspacing however, there are a few caveats. First, changing the wheel backspacing changes a suspension (actually steering) characteristic of the vehicle called scrub radius.

The distance between where the line connecting your ball joints intersects the ground plane and the center of the tire footprint is called the scrub radius. It is much easier to turn a tire about its center than about a point off-center (scrub radius > 0.) 12.5" wide tires are pretty big meats and at slower speed, an increased scrub radius will result in having to apply much higher force when on pavement to make the wheels turn. This will obviously be less apparent off-road where friction is less.

It sounds like your best bets (in decending order of elegance) are to change the backspacing (my favorite), add SUSPENSION lift (I hate body lifts) switch your headers so they do not protrude out so far into the wheel well or go with skinnier tires. Good luck!

The truck has chrome wheels of a 95 or so F-150, It looks like my Drives side tire sticks out more then my passenger one, My mud truck is the same way. That track bar the middle one should it be droped to make the axle sit in the middle again? I dont really care for body lifts either, if the 35s wont clear i quess ill get the 6" springs. Ill probly get those 35s in the next couple days and try putting them on there. Thanks James.
